Sparks dominated from start to finish, taking down the only team to beat the Maroon and Gold this season. Hector Hernandez tallied two goals in the 3-0 victory over Truckee, which makes the Railroaders the No. 1 seed for the state tournament.
“The boys came out with good touch and communicated well,” Sparks boys soccer coach Frank Avilla said. “They had a meeting last night, and they’re hoping to go all the way again. This is one of their goals this year. Our senior class right now is showing great maturity and helping the younger guys on the team to know what all this is about.”
In the 18th minute, Hernandez got Sparks on the scoreboard thanks to an assist from Kevin Partida.
The Railroaders took a 2-0 advantage into halftime when Ruben Pacheco buried a shot into the back of the net in the 31st minute.
Sparks added one more goal with seven minutes to go after Hernandez recorded his second marker.
Renaldo Hernandez had four saves in the shutout for the Railroaders as Sparks out-shot Truckee 14-5.
