The Sparks Railroaders got off to a first-quarter lead and pulled away from the Whittell Warriors to capture a 57-33 road win in boys prep basketball action.

All 11 players on the SHS roster scored and the Railroaders were never really threatened en route to the lopsided win in their regular season finale.

Sparks grabbed a 27-19 lead at halftime but blew the game open by outscoring Whittell 18-7 in the third period. The 18-point third period was the best offensive production for Sparks of any quarter.

"In the third period, we ran the offense cleaner than we did in the first half," Sparks coach Mike Jones said. "At halftime, we pointed out where the open spots were and we produced on the floor. We missed a few easy shots in the first half that could've allowed us to run it up a little bit better earlier."

The guests outscored the Warriors 12-7 in the fourth period. Whittell did not score more than 10 points in any quarter and managed only 14 second-half points.

Sparks did not give up more than six points to any Warriors player.

Martin Jordan was the lone player in the game to hit for double digits in the scoring column. He finished with 10 points for Sparks.

"We could've easily got four guys in double figures if we had made a couple easy shots that we missed in the first half. In the second half, we made those shots," Jones said. "They have a couple good shooters. I was feeling pretty good about our defensive play, and out of everybody. Our bench guys came in too and gave us strong defensive play."

Sparks (14-6, 8-2) will get a week off before it returns to the hardwood. Next up for the Railroaders is a 3A North regional playoff game at home against Elko on Feb. 18. The winner captures a state tournament berth. The loser's season will be over.
