Spanish Springs cruised with first-round pins by Bryson O’Gorman (135 pounds), Hayden Shafer (145 pounds), Sean Hubbard (160 pounds), Nikk Audenried (189 pounds) and Anthony Walsh (215 pounds).
Additionally, the SSHS grapplers picked up second-round pins from Garek Tauchen (152 pounds), Chase Houder (heavyweight), Curtis Lampert (119 pounds) and Rito Hernandez (125 pounds).
The Cougars also picked up a technical fall win by their 130 pounder, Austin Yohey. At 140 pounds and 112 pounds, SSHS wrestlers Zach Perez and Austin Lee won by forfeit. The other Spanish Springs win was recorded by Ryan Long, who won 14-4 in his 103-pound match.
“I’m definitely pleased we stayed on track,” Cougars coach Joe Imelli said. “We did a good job. We had a couple lineup changes — O’Gorman and Walsh — and those two kids won by pin in 34 and 14 seconds. I was happy with that. Up and down the lineup, I thought our kids did a good job when they got their opponents on their backs ... I’ve said all along we’ve got a pretty young lineup, so the more mat time we get, the better.”
