LAS VEGAS (AP) — Sex industry mogul Harry Mohney has sued an erotic-art curator, claiming her faulty appraisal of adult items he donated to the Erotic Heritage Museum in Las Vegas caused him problems with the IRS.

Mohney, founder of Déjà Vu and Little Darlings strip clubs and adult bookstores, accuses Laura Henkel of malpractice, breach of contract, fraud and misrepresentation, and seeks unspecified damages.

The complaint, filed in Clark County District Court this week, claims Henkel grossly overvalued some of the items he donated to the Exodus Trust, which opened the Erotic Heritage Museum in 2008, the Las Vegas Sun reported.

The appraisals included false information that Mohney owned copyrights and distribution rights to some films, the suit adds.

After Mohney claimed charitable deductions on his income tax forms based on the appraisals, the IRA disallowed most of the deductions, the suit says.

In 2005, “mint condition” 16 mm films and loops, fliers and press kits were appraised at $5.9 million, while short and feature films, loops and trailers were appraised at $5.8 million, according to the complaint. Additional appraisals were conducted in 2006 for undisclosed amounts.

Henkel denied the allegations, saying the suit is related to a dispute with Mohney over her termination last year as assistant curator of the Las Vegas museum.

“The allegations made by Mr. Mohney are completely false, and were made in retribution for my pending lawsuit against him for his previous defamatory comments,” said Henkel, who now runs Sin City Gallery in Las Vegas.

“This just continues the pattern of behavior by Mr. Mohney to attempt to smear my good name, and I look forward to complete vindication in the courts,” she added.

The Exodus Trust owns the Institute for the Advanced Study of Human Sexuality in San Francisco.
