“The employees and medical staff at Renown Rehab will be working together to enhance the patient experience by promoting a seamless transition from acute hospital care to post-acute care,” Dr. Humphries said when asked about his main goals as the hospital’s medical director. “As post-acute care providers, we can better define medical necessity throughout the post-acute continuum for referred patients, in an effort to provide the best care possible in an efficient and cost-effective manner.”
Before moving to Reno, Dr. Humphries was the medical director of St. Luke’s Rehabilitation Institute in Spokane, Wash., for nearly seven years. Prior to that, he was the medical director of the Healthsouth Rehabilitation Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colo., for seven years.
Dr. Humphries earned his M.D. in 1993 from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver. He then completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., in 1998.
Before starting his medical career, Dr. Humphries was a professional football player. He was a member of the Chicago Bears for three years and the Denver Broncos for two years. He also played for the University of Michigan’s football team during his time there.
