SPARKS — The Sparks Greenbrae Lions have initiated a project to use eyeglass cases from their eyeglass recycling program to create personal hygiene kits to distribute to homeless shelters. Donations from dentists and various northern Nevada businesses have already allowed the organization to make and donate 70 kits.

At the Sparks Greenbrae Lions meeting at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, guest speaker Sandy Isham, the Development and Community Relations Officer for Volunteers of America, will be presented with more kits and a bag full of donated toiletries too big to fit in the eyeglass cases.

The Sparks Greenbrae Lions are asking for the support of the community with this project. Rather than throwing eyeglass cases away, the Lions are asking residents to donate them to a good cause. Hard cover cases are used for the hygiene kits so they last. At this time the items included in the hygiene kits are: toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, comb, band-aid, soap and emery board. The Lions are looking to include antiseptic hand wipes and Q-tips in future kits.

All donations are appreciated. For more information contact Suraj Zutshi at travelcenter@powernet.net or call 323-0110.
