SPARKS -- For more than 50 years, John and Rose Ascuaga have been quietly donating money and resources to Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada, and St. Vincent’s.

While they don’t do it for the recognition, the Ascuagas will be the center of attention Thursday when they receive the 5th annual Bishop’s Humanitarian Award from Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada. The ceremony and a charity dinner will be held at John Ascuaga's Nugget from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Most notably, the Ascuagas have been providing St. Vincent’s Thanksgiving and Christmas meals for years. Because of the food and staff the Ascuagas provide, St. Vincent’s is able to feed nearly 1,300 people at each of these holiday meals.

All proceeds from the event benefit CCNN’s St. Vincent’s Dining Room, Food Pantry, Emergency Assistance, Affordable Housing and Immigration Programs. The event will feature dinner, a live and silent auction, a video, photos with Bishop Calvo and a raffle.

“CCNN assists approximately 50,000 people per month in northern Nevada and with economic conditions as they are, that number continues to grow,” said Peter Vogel, Executive Director of CCNN. “This event creates the perfect opportunity to learn more about how our agency assists those less fortunate throughout the year. Our services have never been in such high demand, and this is a great way to support our mission, while helping us celebrate our accomplishments.”

Individual tickets, tables, and sponsorships/advertisements are available for the event. For more information about the event and/or CCNN, please visit
