Since early in the month, NV Energy has been recruiting volunteers and coordinating with the Edison Electric Institute, the association of U.S. shareholder-owned electric companies, to determine where its resources would be deployed and to secure transportation from Nevada to New York.
The 18 crew members, seven from northern Nevada and 11 from southern Nevada, began preparations Nov. 2 to travel east. On Nov. 5, the 12 crew trucks, including line trucks and other support vehicles, were loaded on aircraft at both Travis Air Force Base in Sacramento, Calif. and Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas.
NV Energy crews joined the nearly 10,000 restoration workers assisting LIPA to restore electric service.
