Tribune/Nathan Orme - Ilona Coote, 11, from Reno, is all smiles as her adult companion, Don Polla, a family friend visiting from Morrison, Colo., seems a little more tense as they shoot out the end of the Eye of the Dragon water slide at Wild Island water park in Sparks on Sunday. Only about 150 hearty souls braved the hot-then-cool weather on Sunday at the park, which opened for the season last weekend.
While Saturday saw rain and even some hail in parts of the Truckee Meadows, Sunday stayed free of precipitation with intermittent clouds throughout the day. Today is predicted to have the best weather of the three-day weekend with highs in upper 70s.
Sunday’s on-and-off warmth drew just a few hundred hopeful folks to Wild Island water park in Sparks, open for just its second weekend of the season, to take advantage of temperatures that peaked in the high 60s but got much cooler when the sun dipped behind the sporadic clouds.
By week’s end, temperatures are predicted to reach the 90s.
