RENO — Truckee Meadows Community College will present Dr. Donald Johanson on Sept. 22 as part of the college’s Distinguished Speakers Series.

Dr. Johanson, the paleoanthropologist who discovered “Lucy,” the world’s best known fossil, will discuss his historic find and how it resonated globally and forever changed the world’s understanding of the human past.

When he found Lucy, she was a 40 percent complete skeleton of a previously unknown type of ancient hominid. Committed to sharing and explaining scientific discoveries to the general public, Johanson’s outreach efforts have spanned multiple media, including television, books and the award-winning science website “Becoming Human.”

The event will take place in the V. James Eardley Student Center in the Red Mountain Building on the TMCC campus. The VIP reception begins at 5:30 p.m. and the presentation begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are available online at www.tmcc.edu/dss.
