SPANISH SPRINGS — A Sparks man has been arrested on charges of trying to murder his mother with a knife.
Michael Spangenberg, 36, was arrested by Washoe County Sheriff’s Office deputies Monday when they responded to report of a battery with a deadly weapon in the residential area of South Largo Drive in Spanish Springs just before 1 a.m. A woman reported that her son stabbed her several times with a knife.
When deputies arrived, they made contact with two persons who showed signs of being in a fight. The subjects were treated and transported to a local hospital for further treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Sheriff’s office detectives were called out and, after more investigation, Spangenberg was arrested and transported to the Washoe County jail where he was booked on felony attempted murder and domestic battery with a deadly weapon. Spangenberg’s bail has been set at $157,500.
