Upon arrival, deputies made contact with a 67-year-old female who was in need of medical care. The female told deputies that she had been battered and choked by a family member. She said Charles Welchert, 31, began arguing with her and became extremely angry. According to the victim, the verbal argument turned physical. She explained that Welchert proceeded to batter and choke her. During the physical altercation, she attempted to dial 9-1-1 but Welchert took the phone away and began destroying items within the residence. She was examined by REMSA paramedics, and then transported to a local hospital for further treatment.
Welchert cooperated with the investigation. Family members were able to intervene and stopped Welchert before the bodily harm could become more severe. Welchert’s 4-year-old son was at the residence during the incident as well.
Welchert was arrested and transported to the Washoe County Detention Facility, where he was booked without incident. Welchert’s bail is set at $171,500.
