RENO — A 19-year-old Reno man who police say has gang ties has been sentenced to life in prison for the fatal shooting of a man during a road rage incident in Sparks last March.
Washoe District Judge Connie Steinheimer ordered Guillermo Padilla-Martinez on Wednesday to spend at least 12 years in prison before he is eligible for parole. He earlier pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for killing Juan Cazares-Perez.
Deputy District Attorney Derek Dreiling says he hopes the punishment will make others think twice befores an act of “bravado or intimidation.”
Padilla-Martinez was 18 when he was driving a friend in his mother’s Saturn in Sparks. He told police the shooting stemmed from a fight that started because he believed the car behind them was tailgating.
