RENO — On May 19 at 4:38 p.m., Reno Police Department officers were called to the area of Echo Avenue and Mt. Babcock Street to assist Sierra Nevada Job Corps security officers with an intoxicated subject yelling at passersby. Security had attempted to detain the subject when a physical confrontation erupted. Shortly after the confrontation was competed, one of the security guards collapsed.  REMSA was called in to assist, but they were unable to revive the victim. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The defendant, Andrew John Weist, 20, was subsequently arrested and charged with one count of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of battery and one count of minor in consumption.

The investigation is still continuing, so anyone with information is requested to call the Reno Police Department at 334-2188.
