ARC also announced that it is currently in the permitting stage for a second refinery in the Las Vegas area, which will allow the company to better service its growing customer base in southern Nevada and Arizona.
“The Advanced Refining Concepts expansion is a triple bottom line win for the greater Reno-Tahoe area,” said Chuck Alvey, president and CEO of the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN). “ARC’s innovative fuel product is helping create new jobs, enhance the environment and a local company grow – a great development all around.”
ARC’s Peru Heights refinery is located about nine miles east of Reno in the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center. Phases three and four represent the company’s second expansion project since the refinery originally opened in 2010 with a 100,000-gallon-per-day capacity. In October 2010, the company embarked on its phase two refinery expansion that doubled the capacity to 200,000 gallons per day. Phase two was completed earlier this year.
The Peru Heights refinery currently employs 15 full-time operators. The construction of phases three and four, as well as the associated on-going fuel transportation, are expected to add more than 100 new jobs to the local economy.
