WASHOE VALLEY — Tuesday at 6:22 a.m., Nevada Highway Patrol troopers were dispatched to a call involving a Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) bus that was stopped on the shoulder of southbound U.S. 395 near the Bellevue Road interchange in Washoe Valley.

Troopers were told that an unruly man with a knife had caused some sort of disturbance on the moving intercity bus headed to Carson City from Reno. An NHP sergeant based in Carson City arrived on scene first followed by other troopers and deputies from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office. The man, Merle Buffalo, 45, of Markleeville, Calif., was taken into custody without incident and detained.

After speaking with the bus driver and other passengers riding on the bus, it was determined that an assault had taken place on the bus. The subject was transported to the Washoe County jail where he was booked on simple battery and assault with a deadly weapon.
