Feeling betrayed by Hot August Nights

Bill Harrah was an absolute genius. He started a swap meet for car enthusiasts at the area that is now Rancho San Rafael Park in Reno and it evolved into the multimillion dollar extravaganza we now call Hot August Nights. Well, apparently, we better enjoy the ride because, according to local scuttlebutt, Reno will not have this golden goose to kick around any more after the year 2011. The principals deny it, but there is fear that those who run the show are pulling up stakes and moving the whole kit and caboodle to Long Beach, Calif. starting in 2012.

If this happens, the area will lose all the revenue that Hot August Nights (HAN) generated for the various businesses as well as a degree of pride at having lost a real winner of an event. The reasons for the event possibly leaving Reno are still uncertain.

Locals are hopping mad about this turn of events, starting with Reno Mayor Bob Cashell. It’s probably just as well that officials of HAN, including director Bruce Walter, are unable to be contacted because they did show their faces, they might find themselves escorted out of town a little sooner than later — tarred and feathered, to boot.

If it is true that HAN is moving permanently to Long Beach, it is not illegal for them to do so as the cities of Reno and Sparks have no contract with the event to stay in the area. But given the track record of the support northern Nevada has given to the event, it is highly unethical to stab the area in the back and slink off in the night under cover of darkness with the golden goose under its arms as the coach is turning into a pumpkin.

An interesting fact that has a degree of carpet-bagging crookedness to it is that Walter is from Long Beach. In fact, that is where he came from when he came to the area to take over the reins of HAN. How sweet it is and how convenient, as well. It doesn’t take an exterminator to smell a rat here, does it?

On the bright side, maybe it’s a good thing that Walter and company could be leaving after all. We common folk have no idea what a crooked, no good, son of a beach (that’s Long Beach) like Walter was like to deal with behind the scenes. We have enough support for this event here and a ready pool of willing volunteers that they could all band together and put on their own Hot August Nights. We don’t need no stinking Walter and his crooked band of golden goose thieves. I hope they choke on all the wads of dough they have undoubtedly stuffed in their double-breasted midnight gangster pockets.

Wow you sound like a bitter man Larry.

Could you have insulated Bruce Walter any more than you did? I don't think so, "carpet bagging crookedness" "crooked band of golden goose thieves"

"gangster pockets", Are you for real? If I was Mr Walter I would be headed for Ze hills if I encountered such a bitter attitude from someone involved in Hot Aug Nights. One can only hope

you are in no way connected with this event
