VERDI — Cabela’s outdoors store is featuring a free weekend of hunting dog training, obedience tips and pet CPR/first aid seminars at the Reno store on Friday and Saturday as part of the Dog Days of Summer event. In addition, Cabela’s is having a blood drive with the United Blood Services bloodmobile on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the store’s front parking lot.

Three area dog trainers and a Red Cross certified pet CPR/first aid instructor will lend their expertise free to anyone coming to the store that weekend. Additionally, a sweepstakes offering more than $500 of dog training products will go to one lucky winner from all Cabela’s stores during the weekend.

The free seminars are at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., noon and 1 p.m. both days. Peggy Rew, a certified and local pet CPR/first aid instructor, will offer her seminar at 10 a.m.; David and Elizabeth Cousineau will demonstrate some tips on training hunting dogs using Tri-Tronics collars at 11 a.m.; Gregg Tanner, a Fallon dog trainer and representative with SportDog, will show how to get your hunting dog ready for the upcoming season at noon; and Kurt Hoss, a longtime dog trainer, who relatively new to the area, will talk about how to train your gun dog and any dog right using his techniques at 1 p.m.. All seminars will take place outside in front of the store except the dog CPR/first aid class, which will take place in the conference room just past the Big Horn Grill.

The Cabela’s store is located in Verdi just off Interstate 80 at Exit 4. The entire schedule of special events, seminars and demonstrations at the Reno store are posted online at www.cabelas.com/reno.
