SPARKS — The Sparks Police Department, with the assistance of the Reno Police Department, the Nevada Highway Patrol, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office and the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, will be conducting a DUI checkpoint on Sunday.

The checkpoint will begin at about 3 p.m. at an undisclosed location in Sparks. The checkpoint is being paid for by a grant from the Department of Public Safety’s Office of Traffic Safety. The Sparks Police Department would like to remind football fans that if their Super Bowl celebration includes alcohol, have a designated driver, use public transportation or a taxi service.

Anyone who is hosting a Super Bowl party is encouraged to serve alcohol only to persons who are 21 years of age or older, make sure to have a designated driver and take steps to prevent any guests from driving while impaired.

Anyone who is attending a Super Bowl party is encouraged to keep the numbers for local cab companies in their cell phone, leave car keys at home if you plan to drink and avoid drinking too much alcohol too fast.
