RENO — Law enforcement personnel from the Reno and Sparks police departments, Washoe County Sheriff’s Office and the Nevada Highway Patrol are teaming up to conduct a DUI checkpoint this weekend. With grant funding provided by the Northern Nevada DUI Task Force, the administrative roadblock will be taking place from 5 to 11 p.m. Saturday on Kietzke Lane in Reno.

Whenever alcohol is part of holiday activities, motorists always should plan their events safely and responsibly by completely refraining from driving, designating a safe and sober driver or using public transportation.

Every day at least one motorist in Washoe County is placed under arrest for a DUI offense and is taken to jail, according to a police press release.

Officers, deputies and troopers will be screening traffic on southbound Kietzke Lane between South McCarran Boulevard and Neil Road. If alcohol is suspected in the initial screening interview area, motorists will be directed to the secondary screening area for further testing. Additionally, any motorists who clearly are in violation of any state law, such as seat belt violations, also will be directed into the secondary screening area and the appropriate enforcement action will be taken.
