Checkpoint screens 1,400 vehicles

RENO — Law enforcement personnel from five northern Nevada agencies conducted a DUI checkpoint Saturday on Kietzke Lane north of Neil Road. Police officers from the Reno and Sparks police departments, deputies from the Washoe County and Douglas County sheriff’s offices and troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol participated in the “Joining Forces” checkpoint from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m.

During the eight-hour event, 1,400 vehicles were screened with 31 of those directed into the secondary screening area. Of the 31 motorists contacted in the secondary screening area, four were arrested for DUI and two were arrested or cited for possession of methamphetamine or marijuana.

Below is an overview of the arrests, tests, citations issued:

DUI: 4 (two alcohol and two drugs)

Field sobriety tests administered: 31

Possession of drugs: 2 (one methamphetamine, one marijuana)

Total arrests: 6

Seat belt citations: 20

Child safety seat citations: 5

Suspended driver’s license citations: 4

Insurance citations: 13

Registration violations: 11

Misc. traffic violations: 4
