SPARKS — The 26th Annual Wild West Roadeo will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Victorian Square.
The competition and community safety fair is set for Earth Day and will include participants who will be timed navigating 38,000-pound vehicles between tennis balls aligned for parking, blue barrels for precision narrow spaces and other maneuvers that test drivers’ skills.
This year’s event is hosted by MV Transportation and RTC’s contractor for RIDE transit services.
Sparks Mayor Geno Martini will compete at 9 a.m.
RTC RIDE will field 31 competitors who will be drivers from RTC ACCESS (First Transit), Harrah’s, Airport Mini Bus and John Ascuaga’s Nugget.
The event also will include a bike rodeo for children, with two free bikes given to raffle winners in the under-sixth-grade category and two more to sixth-grade and older competitors based on a skills competition.
The day will also include a wheelchair users’ roadeo coordinated by the Northern Nevada Center for Independent Living.
Food vendors will be onsite, along with representatives from multiple community safety agencies including the American Red Cross, Children’s Cabinet, Nevada Air National Guard, Air Force, Navy and members of the Yellow Ribbon organization.
