RENO — Bishop Manogue Catholic High School’s Board of Directors was awarded the 2012 Outstanding Board Award, one of four districts nationwide to receive the honor this year, the school announced Wednesday.

“It’s a validation for what the board and administration has been working on collaboratively for the last three to five years,” said school President Christ Whitty. “The board does a lot of work to help and support the administration in several specific areas.”

Bishop Manogue’s Board of Directors is made up of 20 members that help direct a student body of 614 students. The award was presented by the Department of Boards and Councils of the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA).

Boards are chosen for the award based on exceptional contributions to their school, parish or diocese over the past three years, with particular weight given to the effectiveness of the board’s leadership and committees, goal-setting and self-evaluation, communication with constituencies, and dedication to a school’s mission.

“This outstanding board merits recognition,” said Superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Diocese of Reno, Karen Barreras. “They have given generously of their time, their various talents, and their treasure, and after five years of their continuous leadership, support, and dedication Bishop Manogue Catholic High School is stronger than ever.”

Barreras, along with board member Ross Barker ’61 and Bishop Manogue president Chris Whitty, will accept the award at a luncheon honoring the winners at the NCEA Annual Convention in Boston, Mass., on April 12.
