RENO — Donald Jackson, 22, has been arrested on one count of murder in the death of a 2-year-old child he was babysitting Wednesday.

At about 11:05 a.m. Wednesday Reno Police Department officers and medical personnel responded to the 3200 block of Lakeside Avenue regarding a 2-year-old not breathing. Upon arrival officers found the child unresponsive and REMSA immediately transported him to a local hospital for treatment. The 19-month-old child was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Child Abuse and Homicide Detectives responded to the scene and continued the investigation. It was learned the mother of the child went to work that morning and her boyfriend, Jackson, was left to babysit and care for the child. At about 11 a.m. Jackson asked another tenant at the apartments to assist with the child as the child was “cold and not breathing.” Detectives interviewed all involved parties and no arrests were immediately made pending an autopsy.

The autopsy was performed Thursday and it was learned the child suffered numerous internal injuries from blunt force trauma. Jackson was interviewed again Thursday and was arrested for one count of open murder. He is being held in the Washoe County Jail without bail.

Anyone having information relating to this crime or the suspect should contact the Reno Police Department at 334-2115, Secret Witness at 322-4900, report online at or text a tip to 847-411, keyword “SW.”
