RENO — Step out of the cold and warm yourself in holiday cheer! The annual Tuba Christmas Concert returns to the Wilbur May Museum Saturday. Doors open at 10 a.m. and the concert begins at 3 p.m. This free, family-friendly event features holiday carols arranged in four-part harmony and performed by local tuba, baritone and euphonium players. The Wilbur May Museum will have festive decorations on display, and children can try a holiday scavenger to win a prize. Hot cocoa, cider and cookies will also be available.

All area tuba, baritone, and euphonium players are invited to participate in the Tuba Christmas Concert. Musician registration begins at 12:30 p.m. and musician rehearsal begins at 1 p.m.

Tuba Christmas performances are held each year all over the world, but this is the only event in Nevada. The first Tuba Christmas was conducted in New York City’s Rockefeller Plaza Ice Rink on Dec. 22, 1974. The musical event was conceived as a tribute to premier tuba player and teacher William J. Bell, who was born on Christmas Day, 1902.
