Although she may be shy when you first meet her, Mia is a sweet, loving kitty once she gets to know you. Right next to you is where she wants to be — preferably getting her ears scratched — and will let you know how much she appreciates you by her gentle purrs. Mia is waiting to find that right someone who will see that her shyness is short lived and that all she really wants to do is love you. Could that be you?

Fall Frenzy Adoption Promotion, Nov. 1-15

Pick your price to adopt adult cats and dogs (4 months and older, excluding specially priced dogs), or adopt two kittens for $60. Adoptions in the Seniors-for-Seniors program are free (people age 55 and older, pets age 6 and older).

To honor Veterans Day on Thursday, the Nevada Humane Society is offering free adoptions of adult pets (4 months or older, excluding specially priced dogs) to veterans and families of active duty military or National Guard.

All dogs and cats are spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped before adoption — services that would usually cost $200 or more.

“We have so many wonderful dogs and cats in all shapes, sizes, and colors, not to mention many rabbits and other small animals, so you are sure to find the perfect match for your lifestyle,” said Vanessa Porter,  Nevada Humane Society’s adoption manager. “Plus, adopting an animal is incredibly rewarding because you are truly saving a life.”

The Nevada Humane Society is open for adoptions Sunday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The shelter is located at 2825 Longley Lane in Reno. For more information, call 856-2000 or visit www.nevadahumanesociety.org.

Tax-deductible donations to help with the care of the animals are also needed and appreciated.
