Hudson — who’s currently on Arizona’s 15-day Disabled List with a shoulder injury — earned the victory for the Aces Monday, scattering two runs on five hits. He walked one and struck out two in a 71-pitch effort. After his exit, Zach Kroenke worked three innings, and Jonathan Albaladejo closed things out in the ninth.
After back-to-back singles and a walk led-off the first inning, Ruiz unloaded the bases with a grand slam—his third of the season. Three batters later, Rusty Ryal doubled home another run, giving the Aces a 5-0 lead they wouldn’t relinquish.
Monday’s loss fell to Zephyrs starter Tom Koehler (4-4), who surrendered eight runs — seven earned — on nine hits over 2 1-3 innings of work.
In addition to Ruiz’s five-RBI effort, Jake Elmore finished with four hits, and Ryan Wheeler drove in two runs. In all, six Aces batters registered a multi-hit effort.
The series continues this morning at Aces Ballpark. Reno will send RHP Barry Enright (4-2, 3.88 ERA) to the hill, and New Orleans will counter with RHP J.D. Martin (2-3, 6.86 ERA). First pitch is set for 11:35 a.m., and fans can purchase two tickets, two sodas and two hot dogs for just $22.
