RENO — At 7:50 a.m. Wednesday, Nevada Highway Patrol troopers responded to a three-

vehicle crash that had all three westbound lanes of Interstate 80 blocked near the Wells Avenue interchange.  The male driver of a grey Ford pickup failed to reduce his speed as he approached slower-moving commuter traffic.  His pickup slammed into a white Plymouth Neon with three occupants.  The Neon then crashed into the rear of a grey Jeep Liberty. The Jeep’s female driver, along the mother and toddler riding in the Neon, were all transported to Renown Regional Medical Center for minor injuries.  The mother and toddler had to be extricated by Reno Fire Department personnel.  The driver of the Neon was not injured, but he did ride in the ambulance to the hospital with his family members.

Driver inattention was believed to be the leading cause as to why the driver of the Ford failed to reduce his speed.  He was cited for failing to use due care.  Several ramps around the Spaghetti Bowl were closed or monitored in an effort to minimize the congestion near the crash scene.  All three lanes, as well as the traffic control points, were opened at about 8:45 am.

In addition to this crash, authorities also investigated three other accidents in the vicinity. Two took place on southbound U.S. 395 near the Oddie Boulevard interchange and the other happened on westbound Interstate 80 near the Rock Boulevard interchange. Injuries in those events were self-reported and no one was transported from the scenes.
