Shooting The West, a home-grown photography symposium, is celebrating its twenty-fifth anniversary this March by bringing back to Winnemucca some of the favorite photographers and guests who were featured in past years. A returning special guest will be Barbara Van Cleve, a photographer and rancher whose family has ranched in Montana since 1880. Her work is found in public and private art collections around the globe, and she was inducted into the Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame. Van Cleve’s favorite subjects are dramatic Western landscapes, cowboys, ranch life, horses, wildlife, moonlight photography, and the Spanish Missionary Trail in Baja California.
There will be two days of workshops on a variety of topics including introduction to digital cameras, individual sessions with a professional photographer, creative portrait photography, photo editing software, and an entire day with Barbara Van Cleve observing her photographic techniques.
Registration for individual segments or the entire program can be done online. Popular workshops fill up very quickly. For further information on the entire week’s activities including workshops, photo contests, exhibit locations, presentations, and extra features go to: shootingthewest.org or call 623-3501.
