Aikido of Reno, a local martial arts school, is hosting a free self-defense seminar to help educate the community about how to stay safe. It will be taught by Vince Salvatore Sensei, a 6th degree black belt and chief instructor of Aikido of Reno for over 10 years. It will be held at the Aikido of Reno dojo at 135 South Wells Avenue on January 22, 2013. There will be seminars for three different age groups: children ages 4-6 years old from 4:15p.m. – 4:45p.m., children ages 7-12 years old from 5p.m. – 5:45p.m., and a seminar for teens and adults, ages 13 years and up, at 6p.m. that evening.
In attendance will be students from the school itself. However, the lessons that evening will not be focused on the art of Aikido, but on how to avoid and escape from dangerous physical conflicts. The goal of the seminar will be to provide people with no martial arts or self-defense experience with viable tools to protect themselves from harm and escape to safety. The seminar is completely free and open to any who wish to attend if they RSVP by contacting the dojo at (775) 337-8030.
About Aikido of Reno
A school for martial arts in Reno for over 20 years, Aikido of Reno moved to its current location in 2001, when Vince Salvatore Sensei took over as the chief instructor after 12 years of living and training in Japan at the original Aikido school. The school teaches the art of Aikido both as a means of self-defense and a path to self-improvement and empowerment through non-violent means, including verbal conflict resolution techniques. The school benefits from having a strong student base while still maintaining an atmosphere that is welcoming to beginners of any level.
