Every time Chase Hauder steps into the batter’s box, he looks like a threat to go deep. The Spanish Springs senior-to-be has proved that looks are not deceiving.

Hauder was nominated by his coach to participate in the High School Home Run Derby at Aces Ballpark, and now Hauder is one step away from competing in the 2013 Triple-A Home Run Derby, to be held at Aces Ballpark on July 15 as part of the Triple-A All-Star festivities.

“It’s been a pretty cool experience. I’ve really enjoyed it,” Hauder said. “It’s one of the coolest things I’ve done my whole life.”

In the first round of the home run derby competition, each competitor got five outs. One point was awarded for hitting the warning track. Two points were awarded for hitting the wall, and hitters earned three points for clearing the wall.

Hauder was the only competitor to hit a home run in the first round and advanced with seven other batters.

That field cut down to four and then two with a pair of rounds Sunday. Hauder hit five home runs to earn one of the spots in the finals.

“It was pretty awesome. I was just feeling it. It was good stuff,” Hauder said.

He will take on McQueen’s Kody Reynolds, who blasted seven home runs Sunday.

“I’m really going to be looking forward to it. It’s going to be pretty cool,” Hauder said. “He’s a nice kid. I’m glad he made it with me.”

The two will battle it out before the Aces’ game on July 3. The winner will get the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to showcase his power stroke against Triple-A talent.

“That would be awesome. That would be one of the coolest things I would ever do in my life I think,” Hauder said.
